An Indian Safari (Fixed Departure Programme)
India is an ornithologist's delight. With its diverse habitat, the country
is blessed with over 2000 different varieties of birds including such spectacular
species as hornbills, serpent eagles, ibises, storks, pelicans, flamingos,spoonbills,
as well as the national bird, the peacock.

On this tour we concentrate on the plains of Rajasthan and the foothills of
Himalayas which contain very different bird habitat, from semi-arid to wetland
and from forested to mountainous. We visit the great bird sanctuary of Bharatpur,
whose unique attributes as a habitat for resident and migratory species have
earned a place as a World Heritage Site. We tour the renowned tiger sanctuary
of Ranthambore , before tracking tigers and birds on elephant back in Corbett
National park. Finally we explore the valley around Nainital home to a variety
of spectacular mountain birds, before returning to Delhi. Designed for bird
watchers and natural history enthusiast, this tour includes some of the best
wild life sanctuary in India and allows guests the time and leisure to make
the most of their visits to them
Day 1:
Fly from USA to Delhi.
Day 2:
Arrive Delhi. Evening arrival in India's capital. You'll
be escorted to your deluxe hotel. Grand Hotel.
Day 3:
Delhi
This morning tour of New Delhi -ordered grandiose, imperial-produced a synthesis
of Indian and Imperial British architecture New Delhi's highlights including
the 12th century hand- carved Qutab Minar, the Birla Temple and the India Gate.
Later, a tour of Old Delhi takes you to the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi and the
Jamma Masjid, India's largest mosque. the Red Fort, built in 1648 as a symbol
of Mughal's power. Return to Hotel for Welcome cocktails followed by a welcome
dinner hosted by Vacations International . (B)
Day 4:
Jaipur
Depart Delhi for Pink city of Jaipur which is Rajasthan at its most irresistible
and flamboyant. Transfer to Hotel .Rajputana Sheraton/Holiday Inn
Day 5: Jaipur. Journey out to Jaipur for a tour of Rajput Stronghold of Amber
Fort where we ascend to the battlements by elephant . Enjoy a walking tour as
well as a rickshaw ride in Jaipur's old city where you will explore the colourful
local bazaar. Also visit the Palace of Winds, the landmark of Jaipur. , later
attend a prayer ritual at a Hindu temple. Enjoy a leisure evening in picturesque
Jaipur to explore on your own. (B)
Day 6:
Ranthambore
Drive from Jaipur to Ranthambore National Park . Check in at hotel. In the afternoon
we embark upon our first safari in the park where a variety of forest and wetland
birds may be found in addition to the elusive tiger. Ranthambore is one of the
key sanctuaries in the Project Tiger Programme designed to protect this endangered
species(B).
Day 7:
Ranthambore
Morning and evening game drives in the park by both jeep and truck. The remainder
of the day is at leisure to enjoy the lodge and the beautiful scenery, which
alone would make a visit to the park a memorable experience.
Day 8:
Bharatpur
A final morning game drive before departing for Bharatpur and the Keoladeo Ghana
National Park, one of Asia's most important bird sanctuaries. Check in to the
hotel. Afternoon visit to the park where we undertake an expedition by boat.
Day 9:
Bharatpur
Morning and evening bird watching by foot and boat in the company of experienced
rangers
Day 10:
Agra
Depart for Agra where we enjoy a full day city tour including a visit to the
Taj Mahal. In the evening we board and overnight train that takes us northwards
to Corbett Tiger Reserve in the foothills of the mightly Himalayas
Day 11: Corbett
Arrive at Lal Kuan station in the early morning and transfer to the hotel.
In the afternoon we undertake the first of our game and bird viewing safaris.
Day12:
Corbett
The day is devoted to expeditions throught the park both by jeep and elephant.
Tigers are elusive creatures, but Corbett offers some of the best opportunities
of seeing them in their natural environment.. The bird life is also astonishing
and includes large number of waterfowl attracted to the Ramganga river.
Day 13:
Nainital
Morning game viewing before a drive higher into the mountains at nainital, a
delightful hill station that reminds its British builders of the Lake District.
The surrounding mountains peaks however would be a surprise in Cumbria. Overnight
at hotel.
Day 14:
Nainital
Full day excursion to the valleys above Nainital where we can view a variety
of mountain birds while enjoying the majestic scenery of the Himalayas
Day 15:
Delhi
Return by road to Delhi to connect with a late evening flight
Day 16:
USA
Depart from Delhi airport for flight to USA
